anna and rowland’s kitchen

Eclectic creatives, Anna and Rowland, needed their upstairs kitchen to feel open, unfitted, inviting, practical and timeless – a happy space for everyone in their large family to feel comfortable to use at any time for cooking, eating and being.

The necessary removal of a large chimney breast to create one room with plenty of light was key to the solution.  Also, keeping the existing pantry cupboard with its characterful 70’s louvered door added practical charm. The table and the American fridge were both central to the design.

The fridge needed to be in a location that had clear access for all at any time whether cooking in the kitchen or grabbing a drink and going.  I placed it as the first thing you meet from the side as you enter the room and it works perfectly. A busy family, loving being at home and creating and enjoying food, don’t want to spend their time washing up. Two full sized dishwashers wouldn’t have fitted into the space – however two 45cm dishwashers, one either side of the sink, fitted perfectly. It’s a kitchen that they all love to be in and it feels like it’s always been there.
